Scottish unemployment rises by 16,000 |

Unemployment in Scotland rose by 16,000 in the three months from October to December to reach 231,000, according to official figures.
The Scottish jobless rate now stands at 8.6% - above the UK average of 8.4%.
Employment in Scotland fell by 20,000 over the quarter to reach 2,458,000.

Help prevent homelessness in Fife
Orange Friday is a fundraising event organised by Frontline Fife Homelessness Services, a charity working across Fife to prevent homelessness and transform lives.
This year we are aiming to raise £15,000 to help provide food parcels to those in emergency need, assist with our leaving home education programme in schools and pay for another successful activities programme which assisted people with employability, self-confidence and teamwork.

The annual report on the state of poverty and social exclusion in the UK is now available from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the New Policy Institute.
Each report, using official government data, is built around a set of 50 indicators. The analysis covers a wide range of issues, ranging from low income, worklessness and debt, to ill-health, poor education and problems in communities.
